Whitby Jet is formed from fossilized wood. Prehistoric wood washed up into a body of water becomes covered by sediment. The pressure of the water and sediment over millions of years compacts the wood and slowly transforms it into what is known as Whitby Jet. Although Jet can be found all over the world, the finest is found on the North East Yorkshire coast. Jet is a stone of protection and may provide relief for headaches, migraines and healing of traumatic injuries. It is also said to clear negative energies or emotions and to help alleviate grief.
